Warm vs. Cold Foods After Yoga: What’s Better?

The Cold Smoothie Mistake

One winter morning, I drank a cold smoothie post-yoga. My digestion felt heavy, and I felt chilly. I learned from Ayurveda that warmth post-yoga can support digestion and prana.

Ayurvedic Perspective:

  • After yoga, your body’s agni (digestive fire) is active.
  • Warm foods support this fire, aiding digestion and comfort.
  • Cold foods may dampen agni, especially in vata and kapha seasons.

Post-Yoga Foods

  • Herbal teas
  • Warm lemon water
  • Light soups
  • Moong dal chilla or khichd

 When Cold is Okay:

  • In summer, light cold foods (fruits, coconut water) can cool the body.
  • Ensure they are not icy cold; room temperature is better.
